JUNE

Thursday, June 12th, 11:30 am - 1:00 pm - Rough Draft Reading Lab.

Monday, June 22nd - Writual: Tarot As A Writing Portal with Melanie Shirley.

I met Mellie at summer camp for writers where I watched her speed-read the tarot cards a group of about 25 people pulled with the question "What do I need to understand about my writing practice?" There were laughs and tears and lots of shifts in perspective. When Mellie reads cards, she's presenting you with a possible interpretation, not a prediction about the future.

Melanie is a marketing strategist by day, Tarot-reading witch by night. She uses Tarot cards as portals into helping her clients understand what they already know about themselves and their lives at a deeper level. The tarot cards are merely a tool to bring this knowledge to the surface. We will use Tarot cards to ask ourselves questions such as: What am I afraid of writing about, but definitely need to write about? What do I most need to know about my writing/my writing practice? What is my biggest blindspot in regards to this character/this chapter/this scene/this project? How does my life impact my writing and vice versa? What do I need to change in my life so I can center my creativity more?

JULY

Thursday, July 16th, 11:30 am - 1:00 pm - Rough Draft Reading Lab.

Monday, July 27th - How to "Write What You Know" with Emily Gindlesparger.

This infamous piece of writing advice rarely comes with instructions on how to practice it. Two problems we consistently run into (as do most of our writer friends), are figuring out how to access this (often deeply buried) inner knowledge and how to express it with courage and integrity in the face of potential backlash from friends, family, and the public.

Emily is the author of the memoir Please Make Me Love Me and has coached over four hundred authors on the path to writing, editing, and publishing their life's work. She's ghostwritten dozens of books on psychology, sex ed, entrepreneurship, psychedelics, finance, and futurism, including several Wall Street Journal Bestsellers and Indie Book Award winners.

This 90-minute workshop will use guided meditation, breathwork, body scans, dynamic memory exploration, and journal prompts to excavate your inner knowing and bring it into your writing.

Wednesday, August 26, 2026 - The Braided Memoir with Tia Levings - How to connect your personal experience to global movements, social trends, and political change.

Tia is a former Trad Wife and Christian Fundamentalist, and together with her children, she narrowly escaped with her life in the middle of the night. Today, she's dedicated to shining a spotlight on the realities of high-control religion and church-sanctioned domestic abuse and to the support of her fellow survivors.

Her work includes the NYT bestselling memoir, A Well-Trained Wife, hosting an educational platform on social media, and writing an anti-fundamentalist column. Her second book, "I Belong to Me," is coming out May 5th, 2026. You might know Tia from the hit docuseries on Amazon, Shiny Happy People, or the We Can Do Hard Things podcast.
