Writing
Ghostwriting:
What is it?
That Prince Harry memoir was written with the help of a ghostwriter. Lots of famous or semi-famous people use ghostwriters, if they want to publish a book but aren't writers by trade. Ghostwriters can remain anonymous or be credited as co-authors. It's completely up to the agreement between the primary author and ghostwriter.
Why use it?
I've helped ten authors with researching, ghostwriting, and editing their books. I know how to write in your voice for your audience. I've worked with clients who chose the ghostwriting route due to physical limitations, learning differences, or language barriers.
How does it work?
A ghostwriter helps you get your ideas out of your head and into a book, whether you're writing a memoir or a non-fiction book to share your experience, knowledge, and expertise. You provide the ideas and content via interviews, and I use my writing and editing skills to tell your story or explain your concept, in your voice.
Technical writing:
Over the last six years, I've worked primarily with high-tech entrepreneurs and startups, military and government technology transfer offices, federal labs, and universities. In addition to a million white papers, fact sheets, technical instruction manuals, and reports, I've written and edited over 200 technology summaries (translating tech patents into human language), sixteen articles about the transfer of high-tech innovations from government to private industry, and five winning nominations for the Federal Labs Consortium (the Oscars of US government tech transfer). I've covered every tech-enabled field, from biotech, AI and machine learning, energy, and software to sensors, electronics, and environmental innovations.
Marketing/sales/fundraising copy and content writing:
Whether you need a killer end-of-year appeal for your non-profit, someone to translate your industry lingo into a kick-ass product sales pitch, on-point public relations materials, thoughtful and punchy articles, blog and social media posts, or website content, I'm here for you.
Editing
It's helpful to divide editing into three buckets that assess content, style, and accuracy.
CONTENT - Big picture: Structural and developmental editing
What parts go where? Does your story arc make sense, and does your content flow?
STYLE - Your voice: Copy and line editing
Does it sound like you? Is your voice reflected in grammar, sentence structure, and word choice?
ACCURACY - Nitty gritty: Proofreading and polishing
Final pass to catch any formatting errors, typos, or incorrect punctuation, and check research references.
